The National Ski Association of the Republic of Kazakhstan, an accredited organization representing the country in the international ski community, continues to actively work on the development of winter sports. Its activities include cross-country skiing, freestyle skiing (mogul and acrobatics), alpine skiing, ski jumping, Nordic combined and snowboarding.
After the election of Diaz Suleimenov as president of the Association in February 2020, the organization's work received a new impetus. The focus was on transparency, legality and openness in governance. All important decisions were made on the basis of an open dialogue with community members, and financial and economic activities underwent an annual audit.
One of the key steps was to bring the activities in line with the requirements of the law. In particular, 11 regional branches were created and registered as part of the Cross-Country Skiing Federation to obtain the status of a republican sports federation. In addition, the famous skier Vladimir Smirnov was invited to the Association, who played an important role in consolidating the professional community.
In recent years, Kazakhstan has strengthened its position in the world arena of winter sports. Working relations have been established with government agencies, the National Olympic and Paralympic Committees, as well as with the International Ski Federation (FIS). More than 10 major international competitions have been successfully held in the country, including:
Freestyle World Cup (2021),
Junior Freestyle World Championship (2025),
Freestyle World Cup stages (annually since 2020),
World Ski Roller Cups (from 2022).
The association provides systemic support to national teams. So, after a serious injury in 2022, freestyler Anastasia Gorodko underwent treatment in Germany and successfully returned to the sport. Three more athletes received similar assistance.
Work is also underway to provide the teams with everything they need: from equipment to special equipment. To solve the problem with a shortage of ski slopes, snow seals were made and snowmobiles were delivered. Significant support is provided by the SportQory Corporate Fund and the Winter Sports Olympic Training Center.
The organization of the training process remains the responsibility of the coaching council. Among the prominent representatives are the head freestyle coaches Elena Kruglykhina (mogul) and Baglan Inkarbek (acrobatics). Their pupils consistently show high results at international starts.
During the Asian Games in Harbin in 2025, Inkarbek noted the contribution of the Association's leadership:
«President Diaz Suleimenov personally was with the team at the jumps, coordinated organizational issues. It inspired athletes and helped to achieve prizes».
Since 2020, Kazakhstani athletes regularly climb the pedestals of major international competitions. Among them are Yulia Galysheva, Anastasia Gorodko, Pavel Kolmakov, Sherzod Khashirbaev, Dinmukhammed Rayymkulov, Ayana Zholdas, Ilya Mizernykh and others.
The new generation formed over the past four years is already among the leaders in world skiing. Ahead of the 2026 Olympics, Kazakhstan is hoping for medal successes.
The National Ski Association continues to work to consolidate the efforts of athletes, coaches, fans and partners to promote winter sports in the country.
